On New Year's day I was feeling like we didn't really do anything to fun with the kids over the break. We had a wonderful Christmas but I was feeling the need to get away before our regular busy life kicked back in. We left on New Year's day in the afternoon to go play in the snow and spend a couple of days at the cabin. We didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into. By the time we finally made it close to the cabin it was starting to get dark. We drove Geoff's truck to help us get through the snow. We really had no idea how much snow there would be. The road that goes to the cabin was plowed right up to the steep hill that you drive up to get there. There was no way to make it up that hill so we decided to go around the back way. The roads were not plowed any farther to go the other way either. We thought the truck could make it. It didn't look that bad. Well, we of course got stuck in the snow. We had been in the car for over 3 hours, we were so close to the cabin but just couldn't get there. Geoff decided to walk the rest of the way and bring the quads back to get us. It was dark and I wasn't really sure where exactly we were. Geoff assured me that he knew where to go and would be back soon. The kids started to fall asleep while we were waiting, except for Madelyn. She will only sleep in a crib. She wanted to play with every button on the truck. It was not easy keeping her entertained without waking everyone up. After about 45 minutes, I started to wonder why Geoff wasn't back yet. I called my in-laws on my cell phone to let them know what kind of mess we had got ourselves in. I wanted to find out if they knew how far we were from the cabin and if I should start to worry about Geoff. They were going to jump in the car then and come up and help us, but we really needed to wait until the morning to try and get out. They called a lady who lives up there and asked if she could help. She has a plow on her truck but the snow was too deep for her to plow. Geoff came walking down the road about an hour later. He had got disoriented walking in the dark and it took him awhile to find the cabin. Once he did find it he got the quads out and then burried all three of them in the snow. It was 3 feet deep in some places and there were huge snow drifts right in front of the cabin. We he was back at the truck we decided to just spend the night in the car. There was no way to walk through all the snow with the kids. The kids weren't too excited about that idea but we didn't know what else to do. Geoff's Dad called about then to tell us the neighbor up there was coming to get us and we would stay at her house for the night. We were so grateful for her to come out on a cold night and rescue us. She couldn't get her truck all the way too us so we had to walk a ways down to her truck carrying the kids and our things we would need. It was a rough ride back to her home and I was afraid she would be stuck too, but we made it and we had a warm bed to sleep in that night.
The next morning, Danny and JoLynn came up and helped get Geoff's truck out. We then decided to walk in the daylight to the cabin. We found a shorter route than Geoff took the night before. My kids were not going to come all this way and not get to the cabin and have their snow time. It was not an easy walk through the deep snow. It came up to my knees in the deepest places.
Katie started out good but soon got too tired and had to be carried.
We did make it to the cabin. The kids found the snow clothes and wasted no time jumping in the snow.

Joey had been so excited to make a snow cave with Geoff. I don't think it was quite what he had imagined but he had fun building it.
His clothes were soaking wet and all our luggage was back at the truck. There was no way to get it to the cabin. I found what ever clothes I could and put the kids clothes in the dryer. Joey was having fun with
Grammy's pants.
We ended up staying about 5 hours that day at the cabin and played in the snow. We tried to think of any way to get the trucks up to the cabin so we could stay longer but no one could come and plow the roads. We drove home that afternoon. The kids were
disappointed they didn't get to stay longer but at least they won't soon forget our fun adventure in the snow.

We still don't know how this moving thing is all going to work out. We haven't sold our house yet and keep watching our economy get worse and hope that somehow we can pull it off. We know we are in the Lord's hands and will be were we are supposed to be. The unknown is just so hard.
